Derive Brewing Company was founded in 2016 by Luke Sherrill, Peter Steffes and Mike Coates as a nomad brewery specializing in lesser known and scarcely brewed styles such as clean barrel-aged beers. Peter Steffes is a Food Scientist and Luke Sherrill is a Certified Master Brewer from the world renowned Siebel Institute. Steffes and Sherrill met while honing their skills at one of Columbus’s oldest craft breweries and the concept for Derive was quickly born. Derive Brewing Craft Beer and Kitchen, nestled in the heart of eclectic Clintonville, was opened in August of 2020. Derive specializes in hazy IPAs, saisons, and other more esoteric beer styles.
We use delightfully innovative and highly informed recipes that deliver consistent, true to style beer without any of the pretentiousness. We see craft beer as the perfect synthesis of art and science. We thrive on our ability to build meaningful partnerships with others in the industry. We are staffed by a knowledgeable group of teachers, artists, chefs and beer-lovers, sure to help you find the perfect pour.
